More Experiments
I devoted pretty much all of my Sunday this week to try out a couple of ideas that I had recently. First up was a shirt with a bleached design. I went with a simple coy inspired design. It wasn’t completely successful, but it came out well enough to encourage me to try it again (perhaps combining it with screen printing in some way). Next up was a business card holder made with those cool melty beads I used to make my nintendo themed ornaments. This was also not entirely successful, but I was really just testing it out. Turns out it is not very easy to fuse together a box made of these beads. Next go around I’ll probably use some sort of glue or epoxy to bind together the sides. All in all, these were really fun things to try out! (Click the thumbnails for the whole gallery of images).
Also, Saturday night I went out to see a friend of mine and his band Vinny Vegas play at The Ottobar. I highly recommend, they put on a really great show.

Awesome experimenting. It worked! I like the business card holder, especially. The tshirts, too – though you should model them or have a model for the full effect. I love the color contrast the bleach creates. How much did you end up diluting it?
It was great to see you and the girlfriend this weekend. Young William is coming to town next weekend, so maybe we should do a proper double date again?
Posted on: February 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pmThanks for the support. The bleach ratio was about 75% water to 25% bleach, approximately. It worked out really well. I used a small fine spray bottle, this way I could get an even mist, and control how much bleach hit the shirt depending on how much I soaked the fabric with the spray.
I’m planning on reworking the business card holder. I already did a second one, this time sealing the sides with glue instead of trying to melt it together, but that didn’t work too well either. I think it’s back to the drawing board on this thing.
